SOME THINGS FURTHER
Heinrich von Kleist was one of the most important play wrights of the German language and, although his oeuvre is not extensive, he outlined portraits of the human being in a unique, determinant and visionary manner. The heroes of his theatrical texts, romances and stories, albeit pertaining to the 18thCentury, possess a vertiginous actuality.
Mostof Kleist’s stories present people in determined social and existential condition, where by, due to foreign and fortuitous events, are placed in a situation of diversity. With sharp script he dissects the soul and society with surgical precision, slowly revealing the reverse of man, of social and political conditions.
His characters are in continuous transmutation, jeopardising the social structureand the univocal truth of law and justice. In the midst of the 18thcentury, Kleist brought to light issues pertinent to a 21st centuryman – hence presenting his oeuvre in multiple form enables an open and proximate knowledge of the work.
In this sense, the project “Kleist Apparatus – some things about him” creates an environment that brings to light significant and contemporary aspects of Kleist’s work, enabling an understanding of its history as well as its importance and reverberation in the present. This Apparatus is a small spatial structure placed in a passageway, bearing such force that causes an interruption of the course, making the passer by stop, study, thoroughly search that space to uncover a multiple oeuvre, and to reinvent it.
The installation is composed by photographs, texts, video fragments, objects and furniture, all bearing two faces: by circling it a continuous movement of turning inside out and back and forth becomes perceptible, in an endless becoming, as is the nucleus of the Kleistian oeuvre. The iconography of “Kleist Apparatus – some things about him” contains elements of the 18th and early19th centuries (period lived by Kleist), attached to video monitorsand LED plates which present a circulation of the author’s phrases, creating a stimulating atmosphere. The installation also presents copies of the booklet “About the theatre of puppets”.

Heinrich von Kleist foi um dos dramaturgos mais importantes da língua alemã e, ainda que não possua extensa obra, ele esboça retratos do ser humano de forma única, determinante e visionária. Os heróis de seus textos teatrais, novelas e contos, embora pertencentes ao século XVIII, possuem uma atualidade vertiginosa.
A maioria das histórias de Kleist apresenta pessoas em determinada condição social e existencial, que, por acontecimentos alheios e fortuitos, são colocadas em situação diversa. Com uma escrita afiada, ele disseca a alma e a sociedade com precisão cirúrgica, revelando aos poucos o avesso do homem, das condições sociais e políticas.
Seus personagens estão em contínua transmutação, colocando em xeque a estrutura social e a verdade unívoca da lei e da justiça. Em pleno século XVIII, Kleist colocou em cena questões pertinentes ao homem deste século XXI – por isso apresentar sua obra, de forma múltipla, possibilita um conhecimento aberto e próximo da mesma.
Neste sentido, o projeto “Dispositivo Kleist – algumas coisas sobre ele” cria um ambiente no qual aspectos significativos e contemporâneos do trabalho de Kleist tornam-se visíveis e permitem uma apreensão da história, importância e reverberação dele na atualidade. Esse Dispositivo é uma pequena estrutura espacial, colocada em local de passagem, com força tal a interromper o percurso, levando o transeunte a parar, pesquisar, revirar aquele espaço, para descobrir uma obra múltipla e reinventá-la.
A instalação é composta por fotos, textos, fragmentos de vídeos, objetos e mobiliário com duas faces: ao circundá-lo, é perceptível o contínuo movimento de virar e desvirar-se, num interminável devir, núcleo da obra kleistiana. A iconografia do “Dispositivo Kleist – algumas coisas sobre ele” contém elementos do século XVIII e início do século XIX (época em que Kleist viveu), acoplados a monitores de vídeo e placas de LED, por onde circulam frases do autor, criando uma atmosfera instigante. Além disso, a instalação apresenta exemplares do livreto “A propósito do teatro de marionetes”.
